SUPPORT THE CHILDREN
Return of the Language
On September 23, 1988, mothers from the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawà:ke decided that it was necessary to establish a Mohawk immersion program to serve the greater community in an effort to revitalize the language.
Their vision was to create a home-like environment for children so that they could live the language immersed in the philosophy of the Kanien'kehá:ka.
We are pleased to share that we are celebrating 30 years!
Karihwanoron is a grass-roots initiative; we have been sanctioned by the Kahnawà:ke Kanien’kehá:ka Kanakeráhsera (Longhouse) and Governed by the "Entity."
As of April 2019, Karihwanoron starts the process of enhancing its unique Language and Cultural Program with core Government funding
For 30 years Karihwanoron survived on fundraising and support from our community and beyond... a few bills were ran up and in order to catch up we have kept a few of our popular fundraisers!
All proceeds will go towards catching up and future endeavers, such as a new building!
Karihwanoron (precious things) is located in the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawà:ke.
For 30 years, our Instructors and the parents of Karihwanoron have dedicated their time to return the Mohawk language to our children.
Niawehnkówa for all that you do!
